The reserve has a trail that winds through a butterfly garden, through small woods and a field.  Several observation platforms are on the trail for nature viewing. Biking is allowed but the trail is better suited for walking.

 the Coal and Coke Trail heads southwest on the old corridor of the Scottdale Branch of the PA RR toward Scottdale
Set on scenic old railroad corridors, the Coal & Coke Trail provides outdoor recreational opportunities for walkers, joggers, bikers, hikers, and cross-country skiers.
roaring run
The watershed, in Kiski Township, near Apollo, Pennsylvania, includes both Rattling Run and Roaring Run. Waterfalls, huge boulders, a 72 foot cable suspension bridge crossing over beautiful Roaring Run  and tree-covered hills make the area ideal for picnics, hiking and the enjoyment of nature with over 12 miles of hiking and mountain biking trails on Roaring Run Watershed Association property .

allegheny passage
The main access points for residents of Westmoreland County are at Cedar Creek Park and West Newton.
The Youghiogheny River Trail, utilizing the old P. & L. E. Railroad right-of-way from McKeesport to Connellsville, is part of the regional trail system planned to link Washington, D.C. with Pittsburgh known as the Great Allegheny Passage.

Indian Creek Valley Trail
 From Indian Head to Jones Mills, PA
The trail is minutes from the Donegal exit on the turnpike.
Currently nearly eight miles of the trail are finished with a crushed limestone surface, and several additional miles exist through the scenic Indian Creek Gorge as unimproved surface. 
West Penn
The West Penn Trail is a 17-mile rail-trail between Saltsburg and our Westinghouse trailhead near Blairsville.
West Penn Trail is now recognized as a National Recreation Trail!
Mammoth Park
Mammoth, PA
A paved walking path circles the 24 acre lake.  The path is maintained in the winter months. The park also has an unmarked path connecting the lake and upper park.

Extensive stone paved walkways, three fishing decks, Peach park skate park, as well as modified picnic and play areas are a few of the facilities available. The walking path circles both upper lake and lower lake.  Pets are only allowed on the upper lake path.

Many of Linn Run’s hiking trails connect to many miles of trails in Forbes State Forest. Mountain bikes are NOT permitted on hiking trails in Linn Run State Park, but are permitted on designated trails in Forbes State Forest.
